Imogen Parker

I used to be a little seed
Planted in the earth
I used to watch the children grow
But now I have no worth

They would dance and they would play
And I would protect them
And for everyday when they came back
We’d do it all again

I saw them live, I saw them grow
And I grew, but much slower
So when their time finally came
Our playful days were over

They used to swing upon my branches
And laugh in the summer’s heat
But now I stand all alone with my best friends
Buried at my feet
