On September 6th, 2018 Nike debuted an ad campaign featuring Colin Kaepernick. If you don’t know who Colin Kaepernick is, he is former NFL player for the San Francisco 49ers, who is mostly known for his controversial decision to take a knee during the National Anthem in 2016.
The question people are facing now is: Should they support Nike for their decision, or should they “boycott” Nike for their ad? After this ad was televised, many people decided to burn their Nike Products. However, Nike shares have gone up by 33% since the ad was released.
One student’s opinion is recorded here, but the Viking Voice would love for you to share your opinion as well:
Q:Will you continue to support Nike and their products and why?
A: “I will continue to support Nike because they’re doing something brave, and Colin Kaepernick was doing a protest against Police violence and racism, so I will continue to support Nike for doing something brave.”
Q:Do you support Nike’s decision to have Colin Kaepernick in their ad and why?
A: “I do support their decision because they tie into the sports business a lot because they sell sportswear. However I do disagree that they shouldn’t get tangled up in politics” “They’re doings the right thing here by showing they support no police violence.”
