In the North Shore High School there is more freedom in what you want for lunch and better food. In the North Shore Middle School you have to eat the food that is given on that day. Or, you could get deli or bagels (that usually run out).

In the high school you could order in your food. There are many varieties in the cafeteria, such as a froYo machines, paninis, deli sandwiches with large rolls, and many more. Tenth grade and above is allowed to go off campus and get food. We know that administrators may not agree to letting the kids off campus because we’re young, but at least get us food that is as good as outside food.

Kids in our grade complain that when they don’t want to get the hot lunch meal because they are allergic or don’t like the hot lunch meal, they ask to get a bagel and then there is no more left. The kids have to eat something, which they don’t enjoy. They often don’t eat and are hungry for the rest of the day. The article “Skipping Meals Affects Academic Performance” states: “According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC) hunger due to insufficient food intake is associated with lower grades, higher rates of absenteeism, repeating a grade, and the inability to focus among students”.

We interviewed our principal, Mr. Dennis, and asked him whether the middle school should get better lunch cafeteria food. If so, we asked, “Do you agree that we should get the same food as the high school and have the food freedom they do?”

Mr. Dennis said, “I agree that we should get better food,” (Note: he wants to keep the taco meal, though, because that is his favorite meal). He added, that he doesn’t want people ordering in food from different places because he feels “it would be very chaotic.”

We know maybe the school doesn’t want to get better food because it can be very expensive. But maybe we can hold fundraisers. The Middle school kids can hold fundraisers like a school car wash, bake sales, and so many more that can raise money for better lunch meals.

I know maybe the school doesn’t want to get better food because it can be very expensive. But maybe we can hold fundraisers. When our parents pay the tax money more of that portion of money can go to the lunch meal. I’m not saying that we have to pay more tax money i’m saying that a larger portion of that money our parents pay should go to the lunch meals. Also the Middle school kids can hold fundraisers like a school car wash that goes to our lunch meals, bake sales and so many more that can raise money for better lunch meals.
